Jubilee nominations disrupted by chaos in Baringo South

Jubilee Party nominations for the Baringo South constituency by-election were marred by chaos after rival groups battled for the Jubilee ticket.

Police were forced to fire in air after two groups clashed in Marigat.

Tallying of votes was disrupted after votes of one of the aspirants were alleged to have been inflated.

The Returning Officer was accused of doctoring results sparking protests from the locals. Jubilee officials were forced to postpone the announcement of the winner to Sunday.

Earlier in the day, journalists who were following up on the alleged rigging were forced to leave after some youth  threatened to burn the vehicle they were travelling in.

“You better return back peacefully before things turn dark on you,” youth told journalists. The situation was, however, contained after more police officers were deployed to the scene.

Four aspirants Mark Kiptoo, Charles Kimuren, Eunice Lepario, and Joseph Tarus are seeking to succeed the former MP, Grace Kipchoim, who passed on after a long illness.

Ms. Kipchoim had remained bedridden for months and was even sworn into office from her hospital bed.
