Jubilee Party not conducting elections for officials, Nyandarua leaders say

A section of leaders from Nyandarua County have dismissed a group of individuals purporting to conduct the Jubilee Party officials’ elections in the county.

The leaders accused the group of sideshows saying the national office was yet to announce grassroots party elections.

Led by Governor Daniel Waithaka and Gatimu Ward Member of County Assembly Kieru Wambui, the leaders called on residents to be wary of such leaders whom they described as conmen, urging them to await official communication and direction from the Jubilee Party national office.

On Tuesday, a meeting to discuss the appointment of party officials and strengthening of Jubilee Party in Nyandarua County turned chaotic after youths stormed and disrupted it.

Several people, among them a Kinangop parliamentary aspirant Naftaly Mureithi and Nyandarua Deputy Governor Waithaka Mwangi Kirika were injured during the melee at Manunga Catholic Church hall in Miharati where the meeting was taking place.

The meeting had been attended by gubernatorial hopeful Moses Ndirangu, Deputy Governor Mwangi Kirika and former Kanu Chairman Kimani Gakenia who are believed to have convened it.

However, Governor Daniel Waithaka said the Jubilee Party has only two leaders – the president and his deputy – while other officials would be elected as soon as party structures are finalised.

He said the party was yet to conduct branch elections, adding that residents and party supporters must be involved in all the activities in order to enable them choose leaders of their choice.
