Jubilee rebel MPs in court over ouster

The four embattled Jubilee MPs who were ousted from four parliamentary committees have moved to court to have the Jubilee Party, the National Assembly, House Majority Leader and majority Chief Whip cited for contempt of court.

The four; Alfred Keter, Silas Tiren, David Kangogo Bowen and James Mwangi Gakuya complained that the respondents overlooked court orders and went ahead to remove them from their various positions in the August House.

Emgwen MP Alexander Kimutai Kigen was also enjoined in the proceedings on the basis that he also was purportedly discharged from his position as a member of Trade Industry and Cooperative Committee of National Assembly for allegedly going against the party position by letter dated December 19, 2017.

The High Court had on December 27, 2017 issued orders barring the respondents from removing the complainants from their various positions in the House committees.

The respondents through their advocate Danson Mungatana have recognised the existence of the court order which barred them from removing the MPs and conducting election to replace them.

Justice George Odunga has directed that the matter be heard on January 31, 2017.
