Jubilee rejects Chebukatis fresh poll team
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has rejected the new project team named by electoral commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati to conduct next month’s fresh presidential election throwing the poll planning into further disarray.
In a statement to newsrooms, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju saaid the team contains names of individuals Jubilee Party considers partisan in the political scene.
Among the individuals Jubilee Party has rejected include Marjan Hussein Marjan who was named the presidential poll project coordinator, current Commission’s Corporate Affairs Manager Tabitha Mutemi among others.
On Tuesday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman appointed a seven-member team to co-ordinate the October 17 fresh presidential poll, sidelining the CEO Ezra Chiloba.
In a statement, the electoral chairman appointed Marjan Hussein Marjan as the project co-ordinator, Dr Sidney Namulungu as the head of operations, Nancy Kariuki as the head of logistics, Bernard Misati Moseti as head of training, Albert Gogo as the head of ICT and Silas Rotich as the head of National Tallying Centre.
NASA DEMANDS
On their part, opposition coalition NASA have insisted that that thorny issues must first be addressed before the fresh presidential vote is held.
Among issues that the opposition NASA want addressed include personnel change at the IEBC Secretariat.
The IEBC officials that NASA wants fired include the chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba, director of voter registration Immaculate Kassait, Commissioner in charge of ICT Prof Abdi Yakub Guliye, head of legal affairs Praxidis Tororey, deputy CEO in charge of operations Betty Nyabuto and ICT director James Muhati.
