Jubilee should learn from us on how to conduct party primaries KANU

The independent party – Kenya Africa National Union (KANU) leaders have challenged the ruling Jubilee Party to seek advice from it (KANU) on how to conduct peaceful nominations.

Speaking in West Pokot County while issuing certificates to various aspirants who emerged victorious in the Saturday, April 23 nominations, the leaders including Senator John Lonyangapuo and former Cabinet Minister Samuel Poghisio, said that Jubilee should go for a bench-marking programme at KANU offices.

Lonyangapuo said the party conducted peaceful primaries, saying that they had put in place strategies to curb any cases of violence.

“We do not need to shed blood so that we can elect credible leaders. Jubilee has ashamed the country and the President. They need to come and learn from the independent party before holding the primaries,” said Mr Lonyangapuo.

He said that should Jubilee go back to the ballot for fresh primaries without addressing the underlying issues, the nominations might turn to be more chaotic and unsuccessful again.

“They need to learn on how to conduct the elections before holding them. We do not want to see what happened on Friday repeated.”

Poghisio said KANU is the party to admire and asked those who fill their democratic rights have been violated to join the party.

“This is an independent party and we shall welcome those who want to join us,” said Poghisio.

However, the leaders said that they still support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8, 2017 General Election.

“KANU still supports the President’s re-election bid despite the chaos witnessed. The mess witnessed cannot force us to change our stand. We shall support the President,” added Lonyangapuo.

The Senator also faulted the area Governor, Simon Kachapin, for forcing civil servants to fully participate in the primaries.
