Jubilee sinking country into debt – Raila Odinga

CORD leader Raila Odinga has accused Jubilee of propagating corruption in its systems that has left the country reeling in debt.

Speaking during a Harambee at Kapsokwony in Mt Elgon on Sunday, Raila claimed that NYS scandal and Eurobond have been used as avenues for looting public funds, adding that as a result, Kenyans have been cast deep into debt and desperation.

“Their slogan of “Kusema na Kutenda” should actually be “Kusema na Contender” since what the government does is redirect resources for personal gain,” claimed Raila.

He accused the government of imposing high taxes on consumable goods and yet the money is used on activities that have no significant benefit to locals at the grassroots.

“Even the unborn children have debts. The moment they are born, they have a debt of Sh75,000 which they must pay,” he claimed.

“Sh140 billion from Eurobond is missing and yet the government is busy creating propaganda to divert public attention. This is the kind of money that can sustain you for your entire lifetime.”

The CORD leader reiterated his earlier claims that Jacob Juma was killed over his revelations of the Eurobond scandal, saying he does not believe the government could lead a transparent investigation into his murder.

On CORD’s tussle with IEBC, Raila said that their protests would continue on Monday as they seek to push for the removal of the commissioners.

He noted that the coalition has no faith in the commission due to their apparent plan to rig the polls in favour of Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Though our call for dialogue is not solely pegged on IEBC but the whole issue of governance, we are currently focused on ensuring the electoral agency is reformed in readiness for the next polls.”

He called on CORD supporters to carry out peaceful protests on Monday as they seek to push through with their agenda.

Meanwhile, Jubilee has expressed its readiness to hold dialogue with CORD to find solutions to the pressing issues raised.

Speaking on Saturday, Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate Kipchumba Murkomen said as a member of the Legal Affairs Committee, they are ready to engage CORD in a manner that will maintain the integrity of the country’s institution with the intention of ironing out outstanding issues.
