Jubilee slashes by half nomination fee for women, youth

The Jubilee Party has reduced by 50% the nomination fee for women, youth and persons with disabilities.

In a statement, Jubilee party said that the move is to encourage more women, youth and persons with disabilities to register and contest in the party primaries set for April.

However, this does not favour the Parliamentary Women Representatives as they will pay the full amount payable by Members of Parliament.

“All women, youth and people with disabilities (PWD) shall pay half the amounts for the respective position. However, the 50% discount will not be extended to Parliamentary women representatives,” said Jubilee in a statement.

Jubilee also set March 4, 2017 as the deadline for those seeking nominations to submit the necessary documentation.

“In order to comply with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) timeline, the membership of Jubilee Party is hereby notified that the deadline for receiving nomination applications from those members who qualify to contest the position of Governor, Senator, Women Representative, Member of Parliament and Member of County Assembly is March 4, 2017,” read the statement signed by Secretary General, Veronica Maina.

Those seeking the governorship position will pay a registration fee of Ksh 100,000 and a nomination fee of Ksh 400,000 while those contesting for the Senate, Parliamentary and Women Representation will pay a registration fee of Ksh 50,000 and a nomination fee of Ksh 200,000.

Those seeking the County Assembly membership will pay a registration fee of Ksh 20,000 and a nomination fee of Ksh 30,000.

Jubilee Party, which is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election vehicle, is under pressure from members to deliver a free and fair nomination with some already decamping over allegations that the party has already identified key persons as flag bearers.
