Jubilee to blame for Rio Olympics fiasco – Kalonzo

Wiper Democratic Movement Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has criticized the Jubilee government over the Rio 2016 Olympics fiasco.

Kalonzo made reference to the arrest of National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) officials at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Friday night over Rio fiasco, saying such happenings overshadow the glory that the athletes brought to the country.

Rio Olympics Chef-de-Mission, Stephen arap Soi and his deputy James Chacha were arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) upon landing at JKIA with NOCK secretary Francis K Paul having been taken into custody earlier.

“Corruption in this country has reached a point where even Jubilee themselves are now running scared-of, it’s like they have been asleep,” he said.

“Athletics officials stole from our team which won six gold medals and lifted the Kenyan flag high. This is a replication of corruption in government.”

The CORD co-principal said the athletes where subjected to substandard treatment by the officials terming their conduct as shameful.

He urged Kenyans to prepare to take back the Kenyan pride and honor among the nations of the world in the coming elections adding that his recognition as the Africa Dignity Man of Year at the United Nations proves that he has what it takes to restore the Kenyan glory.

On insecurity, the Wiper leader condemned the heinous murder of a patient in Mwingi District hospital two days ago saying a country with an effective government should not allow its citizens to go through such harrowing execution.

“What happened the other day in Mwingi, a patient shot several times in a hospital bed, this is clearly an execution, we cannot tolerate such impunity,” said Kalonzo

On Wiper politics, Kalonzo asked his party chairman and Kitui Senator David Musila and Governor Julius Malombe to practice peaceful and tolerant campaigns as they compete for the party ticket for the governorship of Kitui County.

He said the two leaders hold critical positions in the party and should therefore exemplify democracy during their campaigns.

Kalonzo was speaking on Saturday during a Women’s Sacco fundraiser in Kyuso, Mwingi North constituency where over 3.2 million shillings was raised.
