Jubilee under fierce criticism over Governor Ruto attack

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani Party has condemned the Jubilee government for allegedly using state machinery to intimidate the Governor.

The party has come out to protest Sunday, November 6, 2016 incident where Governor Ruto was attacked, and sustained serious injuries on his face. The governor insists that he was hit with a teargas canister intentionally targeted on him by a police officer.

Party Secretary General, David Sang, claimed that: “No police on their own can have the audacity to lob a teargas canister directly onto the face of the Governor without firm instructions and protection from senior government personalities.”

According to Sang, the government is trying every possible way to intimidate Governor Ruto for his effective leadership and unwavering support for devolution.

Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) Party is now calling for transfer of Bomet County Commissioner, Bernard Lebarmarai, accusing him of protecting the police officer who hit and injured the Governor.

Ruto was on a party-popularization mission in Bomet town when the incident happened. He was immediately rushed to a city hospital in Nairobi for medical attention.

The party is also urging the police Inspector General, Joseph Boinett, to dismiss the officer who aimed the canister at the Governor.

Governor Ruto is considered as a Jubilee rebel after he refused to join Jubilee Party and instead formed his own political outfit.

Ruto has recently embarked on a rigorous party-popularization campaign in the vote-rich Rift Valley region.
