Jubilee proposes key parliamentary committee heads
The Jubilee Party, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday unveiled its nominees to the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) after holding a Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi.
Jubilee proposed Beth Mugo (Nominated Senator), Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho Senator), Adan Keynan (Eldas MP) and Naomi Shaban (Taveta MP) to sit in the PSC, which ensures smooth functioning of the National Assembly.
Lawmakers allied to the ruling party had met at State House to decide the membership of the Parliamentary Service Commission as well as nominate chairpersons of various House committees.
Baringo North MP William Cheptumo was picked to chair the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, Bura MP Ali Wario (Labour), Kieni MP Kanini Kega (Energy), Kiambaa’s Paul Koinange (Security), Murang’a Woman-Rep Sabina Chege (Health), Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai (Lands).
Also in the list is Ndaragua’s Jeremiah Kioni (Cohesion), Tinderet MP Julius Melly (Education), Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungw’a (Budget) and Kajiado South lawmaker Katoo ole Metito (Defence).
The National Super Alliance (NASA) nominated Homa Bay Woman-Representative Gladys Wanga, George Khaniri (Vihiga Senator) and Aisha Jumwa (Malindi MP) to sit in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
The names will be tabled in Parliament for consideration before they are adopted.
The Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting held at State House triggered a quorum hitch in the National Assembly, delaying House business on Wednesday morning.
The House was today (December 13) debating the report of the Joint Parliamentary Select committee on the election of Members to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA). Parliament has until tomorrow to pick nine nominees; five from Jubilee and four from NASA to represent Kenya in the regional assembly.
