Jubilees Kamuren wins Baringo South MP by-election

Charles Kamuren, who vied for the Baringo South MP seat on a Jubilee party ticket, has been declared winner in the by-election results officially released on Saturday morning.

He garnered 12,277 votes beating his closest rival Cynthia Kipchilat (Maendeleo Chap Chap) with 8,968 votes.

Drama ensued shortly after the announcement when the chief agent for Kipchilat refused to sign the final document claiming that results from some polling stations were disputed.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), there were a total of 132 polling stations with voter turn out at 61.48percent.

Total registered voters were 35,162 and total votes cast 21,617, the commission said.

IEBC also announced valid cast votes as 21,617 and rejected votes as 82.

The Baringo South MP seat fell vacant after the death of Grace Kipchoim on April 20, 2018.

Kipchoim died while undergoing treatment at a Nairobi Hospital.

She is remembered for having won the seat without conducting any rally as she was bedridden throughout the campaign period.
