Judiciary and the country need me most – says Chief Justice hopeful

Lucy Wanja Julius, the second female candidate to be interviewed for the position of the Chief Justice, fell short of the requisite qualifications, submitted an incomplete application in a huff, and admitted that she was privy to political secrets.

She not only believes that she has what it takes to take over from Dr Willy Mutunga, who retired in June this year, but says she has been dreaming of being the Chief Justice since she was ten years old.

From where she sits, she is the right person for the job saying that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the country need her and not vice versa.

She was immediately taken to task over her qualifications to head the Judiciary being one of the hopefuls that did not make the cut before a High Court ruling that opened this avenue for her to be interviewed.

“I am a believer in David, I am your David, and I am the person who will kill Goliath. There is a particular reason why you are looking for a Chief Justice currently, because you don’t have one, and you need one badly and urgently, you need one like yesterday, so you need me,” said Ms Wanja.

She said that she can be able to work very well on election petitions since she knows some of the secrets of the politicians, adding that she can get very useful in that area.

She further stated that the media and coverage of legal proceedings would be a thing of the past should she have her way.

“We have a big problem now when a Judge is trying a case and, sorry to say this, but the media is all over the place also trying the same case. So I would want to reduce the involvement of the media in the hearing of the cases unless the particular parties have been asked and accepted that the media should be present.”
