Jury Revises Charges against Baltimore Officers

Gray, 25, died on April 19th of injuries suffered while in police custody and Mosby had filed charges against the six officers early this month. They will be arraigned on July 2nd, Mosby said.

The indictments were very similar to the charges Mosby announced about three weeks ago.

Goodson faces the most serious charges – second-degree depraved heart murder, involuntary manslaughter and assault, among other counts. Porter, Rice and White each face involuntary manslaughter and other charges. Nero and Miller face charges that include second-degree assault, misdemeanours.

Mosby said prosecutors had presented evidence to the grand jury for the past two weeks. Some of the charges were changed based on new information, but she didn't say what that new information was. She also did not take questions.

The charges facing the officers are as follows;

Officer Caesar Goodson Junior: second degree, depraved heart, murder. Involuntary manslaughter, second degree. Negligent assault. Manslaughter by vehicle and gross negligence. Manslaughter by vehicle criminal negligence. Misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding safety of a prisoner. Reckless endangerment.

Officer William Porter: Involuntary manslaughter, second degree negligent assault, misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding the safety of a prisoner and reckless endangerment.

Lieutenant Brian Rice; involuntary manslaughter, second degree negligent assault, misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding the safety of a prisoner and an illegal arrest. Reckless endangerment.

Officer Edward Nero: second degree intentional assault, misconduct in office for an illegal arrest, misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding safety of a prisoner and reckless endangerment.

Officer Garrett Miller second degree intentional assault, misconduct in office for an illegal arrest, misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding the safety of a prisoner and reckless endangerment.

Sergeant Alicia White: involuntary manslaughter, second degree negligent assault, misconduct in office for failure to perform a duty regarding the safety of a prisoner and reckless endangerment.

Now the grand jury has also found probable cause to charge the aforementioned officers based upon the evidence, these officers, who are presumed innocent until proven guilty, are now scheduled to be arraigned in July.
