Kabando: Investigate murder of driver at Youth Enterprise Development Fund

Mukurweini MP Kabando Wa Kabando has asked the National Assembly Public Investments Committee to demand for a judicial inquiry into the murder of Simon Mwangi, a former driver at the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.

Kabando claims the murder of Mwangi, which took place in 2015, was plotted by people who wanted to cover up corruption.

The MP also says that a forensic audit into the youth fund should be conducted following the revelations of a Ksh180 million tender scam.

This comes a day after Mwangi’s father, Francis Wambugu, demanded for an inquiry into the murder of his son over claims that he blew the whistle on a corruption scandal at the fund.

On Friday, details of how Mwangi was murdered to cover up a scheme to loot millions of shillings from the fund emerged.

Suspended Youth Enterprise Development Fund Acting Chief Executive Officer Catherine Namuye said officers, intent on hiding details of the scandal, could have been responsible for the driver’s death in October 2015.

In a heated and emotional sitting of the Public Investments Committee, Namuye denied responsibility for the loss of the monies saying transactions were sanctioned by the board.

Speaking to his wife shortly before he was killed, Mwangi said that he was fearful about his possible murder.

His family demanded thorough investigations into his death at the time.
