Kabarnet Boys High School closed indefinitely after student commits suicide

Karbarnet Boys High School has been closed indefinitely following the death of a form four student last night.

The student is said to have jumped into an open sewer in the school in an apparent suicide, leaving behind a suicide note.

The students were reportedly settling in for the evening after dinner when the unfortunate incident happened. According to his colleagues, Peter Kemboi seemed uneasy when having dinner but they did not suspect anything unusual.

The death saw students storm out of school protesting the slow response by the police, saying their colleague could have been rescued if the response was fast enough.

“The sewage systems are open, the septic tanks are open and the latrines are not in good condition which made the students very angry. We will not go back to school until our grievances are heard,” said a student at the institution.

The body of the student was taken to Kabarnet Hospital mortuary and the school closed indefinitely.

“The board, the teachers and the students’ council have agreed that they need a break of about three days,” said Baringo Women Rep Grace Kipchoim.

Efforts by Citizen Digital to get a response from the school administration were futile.
