Kabogo: Kibaki and Raila should testify at ICC

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo on Friday urged the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to summon former President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga to give evidence over the 2007/2008 post-election violence since they were the leaders of the competing factions.

Kabogo said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto were not seeking for presidency then, therefore they could not be held responsible for the atrocities.

The Governor, who is allied to Jubilee, spoke when he commissioned roads in Kiambaa Constituency,

His sentiments comes a week after a Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, confessed to paying witnesses used in the ICC case Ksh2,000 to give false testimony.

Speaking during a prayer session for the DP and journalist Joshua Sang, Kuria claimed that the ICC prosecution witnesses are the same ones that featured in the  Kriegler and Waki reports.

The controversial MP says that these witnesses were paid Ksh2, 000 to give false testimony, and this is the same information that was used to prosecute Ruto and Sang.

Kuria went further to claim that CORD leader Raila Odinga and Narc Kenya party leader Martha Kuria helped fixed Ruto and Sang at the ICC.

In his speech, Kuria said that both PNU and The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wings of the Grand Coalition Government wrote letters to the ICC blaming and the rival camp for the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

Kuria claimed that PNU members, led by him and Martha Karua, wrote letters blaming Ruto for the violence. The MP now claims that the allegations he made were politically instigated and untrue.

Karua has since sued Kuria for defamation calling on the court to stop the Gatundu South MP from making further allegations linking Karua to the ICC cases.

ODM Thursday responded to the claims made by Kuria saying that the former Director of the National Security and Intelligence Service (NSIS) Michael Gichangi procured witnesses and supplied evidence to the ICC implicating Ruto and Joshua Sang.
