Kabogo wants MP Waititu declared unfit to contest for any elective post

Kiambu Governor William  Kabogo has moved to the court claiming that Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu is unfit to contest for any elective office due to his academic qualifications.

In an urgent certificate, Kabogo, through his lawyer Issa Mansur, argued that Waititu does not possess any valid university degree from a recognized university and there is no evidence that the MP went through a process of learning at the university of Punjab University in India.

The Kiambu Governor said that he is an alumnus of Punjab University in India and was surprised by Waititu’s claims that he was in the same university and earned a degree.

Kabogo wants the case referred to the Chief Justice to constitute a bench to hear and determine the petition.

Justice Joseph Onguto has certified the matter as urgent and directed it to be heard on April 5th.

In January 2013, the then Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu insisted that he has valid educational qualifications from Punjab University in India.

The MP, who was contesting for the Nairobi Governor’s post, said that doubts about his academic credentials were being raised by those he claims want to derail him.

The certificates he presented at a media briefing bore the name Clifford Ndung’u Waititu  and included a 1981 Kenya Certificate of Education and a leaving certificate from Siri Guru College in India and his degree certificate while the name ‘Ferdinand’ appears on his national Identity Card and his passport.

Waititu said he swore an affidavit confirming change of name after he came back from India and was employed at the Treasury as an accountant.

The documents indicated that he went to Dagoretti High School, then to Kenya Polytechnic before he flew to India in 1985.

He claimed that he was in the process of changing his official name on the Identity Card to include Clifford.

“So many people have two baptism names; it is not a wonder that I have two. Why is it only problematic for Waititu?” he posed.

Under Section 25(1) 9(a) of Elections Act, a candidate must satisfy any educational, moral and ethical requirements prescribed by the Constitution and the Act.
