Education Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi says mother tongue plays a crucial role in education

Speaking at the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB), the Cabinet Secretary said for a child to understand, it is better if the first language was used to teach him or her

He said all subjects should be taught in Mother Tongue in lower primary, or the dominant language of the catchment area from which the pupils hail from.

The Chief Executive Officer of KLB, Mrs. Eve Obara said the firm had developed texts on eight vernacular languages.

She thanked the government for reinforcing the use of vernacular in the formative stages of learners.

Present during the familiarization tour included the Chairperson of the Board of Director, Sarah Ndege.
