Kaine says Trump is nuclear maniac Ronald Reagan warned against

U.S. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine on Tuesday (Oct. 4) called Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump the “fool or maniac” that president Ronald Reagan had warned against when it came to nuclear proliferation.

“Ronald Reagan said something really interesting about nuclear proliferation back in the 1980s,” Kaine said during the first and only vice presidential debate in the U.S. presidential campaign.

“He said the problem with nuclear proliferation is that some fool or maniac could trigger a catastrophic event. And I think that’s whose Governor Pence’s running mate is, exactly who President Reagan warned us about,” he said.

His Republican rival, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, interjected at that point, saying : “Oh come on, Senator. That was even beneath you and Hillary Clinton and that’s pretty low.”

Kaine also said Trump has “again and again” praised Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the Republican nominee has business dealings with oligarchs close to Putin.

“The Trump campaign management team had to be fired a month or so ago because of those shadowy connections with pro-Putin forces,” he said.
