One dead, 17 diagnosed with Cholera in Kajiado

One person was on Tuesday confirmed dead while 17 others were diagnosed with Cholera in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kajiado Health CEC Esther Somoire said seven among the 17 are currently admitted and getting treatment, adding that 500 cases were treated in the recent months.

She further stated that her docket has commenced shutting down food vendors and water hawkers that do not meet required standards in the area.

Ms. Somoire also said the rising cases of Cholera in the region might be due to water shortage, warning that towns bordering Nairobi might be vulnerable.

This comes after Nairobi Hospital denied claims of a cholera outbreak within the facility following news on social media that a staff member from the Catering Department died.

“There is no outbreak of Cholera at the Nairobi Hospital. No patient is at risk and we are continuously monitoring. All precautionary measures are in place,” the facility said in a statement on Tuesday.

The hospital however cited the recent outbreak of cholera in Nairobi County saying eight of their employees were affected and are admitted in hospital.
