Kajiado traders decry frustration by county government

Traders at Ngong market are now threatening to move their businesses along Ngong-Nairobi road after the Kajiado County government closed down the market last evening.

Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye was reported to have ordered the closure of the market following the recent outbreak of Cholera in Ngong town that left four people dead.

Recently, four people had died and 18 others hospitalised after they consumed contaminated meat and mutura in Gishagi area.

The 22 were reported to have consumed meat sold by the road that led them to fall victims to what many suspected was yet another cholera outbreak in the area.

In addition, 17 people were admitted to Ngong Hospital after they had eaten the contaminated food, and another man had also been admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was able to get treatment.

However, the businessmen are however crying foul, saying they have no place to sell their goods after the closure and the chance that they might lose their livelihoods if they don’t find alternative spaces to operate from.

In the recent past, Lamu town traders had also experienced the same situation as the traders at Ngong.

Lamu town traders had accused the county government of forcibly having ejected them without giving them an alternative place to work.

During the incident, the traders incurred huge losses when their wares were destroyed by the county officials and they still remained with no place to carry out their business.
