Kajwang Elected Homa Bay Senator

Kajwang’ was announced the winner in Thursday’s by-election after he garnered 127,370 votes.

His closest rival Philip Okundi of Maendeleo Democratic Party received 27,671 votes while Fred Rabongo of the National Agenda Party garnered 2,820 votes

Benard Otieno of the National Vision Party got 1,333 votes.

Independent candidates Hillary Alila, Medo Misama, Edwin Matete and Innocent Masara, received, 523, 304, 302 and 275 votes respectively.

The voting process was however marred by counter-accusations of voter bribery between Kajwang and Okundi.

Voting ended at 5PM amid complaints of low voter turn-out and hitches experienced with the biometric voter registration kits used by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials.
