Kakamega nurses call off strike

The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has called off the Kakamega nurses’ strike that lasted for more than one week leading to deaths and suffering of patients in public hospitals.

Addressing the press in Kakamega town, branch Secretary General, Renson Bulunya, said they have suspended the strike for 21 days to give room for dialogue with the county government representatives.

Bulunya further warned that if the issues that they had raised will not be solved within the 21 days, the union will not relent to advise the nurses to down their tools.

In the statement, Bulunya asked the more than 1300 nurses to resume duty, as their leaders engage the County Government of Kakamega in talks.
