Kakamega police intensify crackdown on illicit brew

Police officers in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County on Tuesday destroyed 11,000 litres of Kangara, an ingredient used in the production of illicit brew.

The operation spearheaded by the Western Regional Commissioner Samuel Kilele also saw police nab 4000 litres of purified illicit brew.

Kilele urged citizens to continue cooperating with police by providing tips and inside information that will intensify their operations.

The commissioner issued a stern warning to officers said to be conspiring with brewers in their activites saying: “Disciplinary and drastic action will be taken against officers who will be found negligent or sharing in the profits of the brewers.”

“This raid marks the start of an operation for the next 90 days aimed at clearing illicit alcohol around Kakamega County,” said Kilele.

The regional commissioner noted that Shinyalu and Ikolomani constituencies are notorious in the production of illicit alcohol.
