A 34-year-old woman is receiving treatment at the Kakamega General Hospital under strict police protection after allegedly throwing herself and her two-year-old twins into river Isukhu at the border of Shinyalu and Lurambi in Kakamega county.

The woman's family led by the children's grandmother Lilian Itsiambo, says that she left her home in Mukulusu heading to her rural home to attend a burial event.

They say they were later informed that their loved one was seen jumping into the river together with her babies.

Locals managed to rescue her but unfortunately failed to rescue the babies who had been swept away.

The body of the female child has been found as efforts to recover the male child's body are underway.

The family has also called on well-wishers to come forward to help them find the body.

Kakamega OCPD Valerian Obore has said that the woman was rescued by one of the people who were conducting business in the river.
