Kalonzo given 30 days to decide political future

Wiper defectors from Ukambani have given party leader Kalonzo Musyoka 30 days to convene a meeting to chart the political future of the region.

Led by Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi, Joe Mutambu ( Mwingi Central), Richard Makenga ( Kaiti) and Michael Kisoi (Mbooni), the leaders accused Kalonzo of misleading the community saying they would not sit and watch as they are led into political oblivion.

In what was dubbed The Matuu Declaration, the MPs and a section of the Kamba Clans Governing council leaders vowed to remain in Jubilee in a bid to reap development benefits for the community.

They said that if Kalonzo does not heed to their demands, they would go ahead and make a declaration on November 15, 2016 regarding the direction the community would take in the 2017 polls and beyond.

“This goes to Kalonzo Musyoka, who purports to be the leader of the Kamba community. We need to be told the direction this community would take failure to which we shall show our people the proper direction,” said Kisoi.

He added that it was a pity that the community was being held hostage by a single individual allegedly driven by personal interests.

“We call upon Kalonzo to call all leaders in Muungano and even CCU to bring our heads together and decide the direction we should take as a community,” he said.

The leaders reaffirmed that it was the time for dialogue for the interest of the community.

The legislators said they would move to popularize Jubilee in Ukambani if Kalonzo fails to heed to their demands.

MP Makenga rubbished claims that they had decamped to Jubilee party without the blessing of the electorate, adding that they would walk the talk and offer good leadership to their people.

He hinted that they were consolidating other communities and all other likeminded leaders from the community to form a formidable political bloc ahead of the 2017 elections.

“We are reaching out to all other leaders and even the Coastal communities to build support ahead of polls”, he said

He said that the Kamba Community has been in government and would remain in government for the sake of development.

Similar sentiments were raised by Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi and Mutambu who stated that they were under pressure from the electorate to chart a political path for the community.

Mutambu said he was ready for a by-election if CORD was willing to foot the bill.

He further demanded a public apology from Kalonzo for calling him a thief, saying if he does not do so in 48 hours he would take action against him.

“I hereby give you a notice to offer a public apology failure to which I will give directions to my lawyer to take you to court,” said Mutambu.

He added that if Kalonzo would not apologize within the stipulated time, he would mobilize people from not only Ukambani but also from Nairobi to pitch camp at Kalonzo’s home for him to substantiate his claims.
