Kalonzo Musyoka: 2020 will be the year of the BBI

Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has now urged residents of Ukambani to read and interact with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, intimating that 2020 will be the year the report actually finds its own footing.

Kalonzo spoke on Sunday while meeting a section of Ukambani leaders at his Yatta home in Machakos where he sought to quell brewing tensions between leaders in the region.

The Wiper party boss called upon the leaders to unite if they intend to make progress in the Kenyan political arena.

The former Vice President also reiterated his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and the BBI report saying it will shape the future of Ukambani politics.

“I have made a resolution that I and the Kamba community are not flip-flopping and where Uhuru will be even after 2022, we will be there,” he said.

“We are now engaging everybody as a free gear. But our true direction is to support Uhuru. I have not spoken to Raila of late but I know his support for Uhuru till he finishes his term has not changed.”

Conspicuously missing from the meeting were Governors Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) who have since challenged Kalonzo for he Ukambani political supremacy.

Kalonzo however said Governor Mutua did not attend due to fears about his security while Kibwana and Ngilu did not send their apologies.

The trio previously accompanied Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to Kibra during the by-election, hence fuelling claims that they were making good their threat to lead the Kamba community to a different political direction.

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua however expressed optimism that Kalonzo will still be a presidential candidate in 2022 and will be a force to reckon with.

The Senator also ruled out the possibility of Kalonzo forging an alliance with Raila Odinga.
