Kalonzo proposes removal of Governors term limit

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has proposed the removal of term limits for governors while backing the creation of a powerful prime minister under the Building Bridges Initiative.

Kalonzo was speaking on Wednesday during a meeting bringing together all Ukambani leaders where they resolved to set aside their differences and forge a united front.

“Remove the term limits for Governors… But when it comes to the presidential limit, and I want to congratulate President Kenyatta on this, nobody will talk about removing the president’s term. No one will talk about that one,” said Kalonzo.

During the meeting, the tension between Kalonzo Musyoka and Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu could be felt, the two having clashed over the upcoming BBI meetings. They, however, seemed in agreement when they walked out of the meeting with the session.

Among recommendations to be unveiled in the Kitui BBI meeting include the creation of the position of a powerful prime minister.

During the meeting, it was resolved that all Ukambani leaders attend the Kitui BBI rally organised by Governor Charity Ngilu this Saturday and a week later attend another in Wote, Makueni County organised by the Wiper leader.
