Kalonzo skips President Uhuru’s Ukambani tour
Wiper Party leader and Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka will skip President Uhuru Kenyatta’s two-day visit of Ukambani region with his party saying that he has not been invited.
Wiper Party Chair David Musila said that Kalonzo and Wiper MPs were not invited to accompany the President for his Machakos and Kitui tour.
“We are just following rumors on how the program will be since we were not invited,” said Musila.
Addressing the media at Parliament buildings Friday, the Kitui Senator, however, said they support the development projects being launched by the President in the larger Ukambani region.
“As elected Members of Parliament and on behalf of the Ukambani people, we welcome President Kenyatta on his tour and we are urging the people to turn out in large numbers. We believe that the President is coming to our region because of development,” said Musila.
However, a section of Wiper members, who have been labeled rebels among them Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua have accompanied the Head of State in his Ukambani region tour.
President Kenyatta started his tour of Ukambani region in Tala on Friday, where he is commissioning the upgrade of Oldonyo Sabuk-Kilimambogo road.
He will then inspect rehabilitation works at the Yatta Canal, in Kithimani and later commission the Masinga Water Project.
A statement by Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka said that the President, however, postponed his tour of Makueni County due to an international assignment, but will visit Kitui on Saturday before attending a prayer day.
He also noted that the President has set a separate day, after his out of the country tour, to visit Mwala and Machakos, where he will award a charter to Machakos University College.
