Kamani Moves To Court Over Anglo Leasing Probe

Deepak alongside Chamanlal Kamani and Rashmi Kamani are seeking to stop the Swiss Federal Attorney’s office from obtaining information following their request for legal assistance in criminal matters dated 3rd June 2014.

 

The three who have been adversely mentioned in the Anglo-Leasing scandal are accused of among other things money laundering.

 

Kamani had earlier on been arrested by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission for interrogation over his role in the Anglo Leasing scandal.

 

In April, the government paid Sh1.4 billion to First Mercantile Securities Corporation, controlled by Anura Perera a businessman contracted to supply satellite internet to Kenya's 900 post offices.

 

The government pledged to recover the money from five individuals who had benefited from Anglo Leasing and similar deals.

 

Mr Kamani and Mr Perera are among individuals named as architects of 17 Anglo Leasing contracts in the Public Accounts Committee’s Special Audit on Procurement of Passport Issuing Equipment report that Parliament adopted in 2006.

 

The matter before Justice Isaac Lenaola is set for hearing on 5th August 2014.
