Kanini Kega wants visas of MPs supporting Raila’s oathing revoked

Kieni MP Kanini Kega has called on foreign envoys to revoke visas of legislators who are in support of the swearing-in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka slated for 30th January 2018.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Saturday, Kanini Kega said any legislator who signs the affidavit to endorse the swearing-in of the NASA leaders is setting the country up for destruction and should not be allowed to leave the country.

“If the international community is serious about ensuring Kenya remains peaceful, they should revoke visas of anyone who has appended their signature to endorse Raila Odinga’s swearing in,” said Kega.

“What the NASA legislators are trying to do is plunge this country into chaos with a plan to escape to other countries together with their families. That should not be allowed.”

He further noted that other supporters of the plan who are applying for visas should have their applications denied noting that all the planners and supporters of the oath plan should be prevented from leaving the country.

The revocation of visas, he said, should be extended to the leaders at the core of the swearing-in plan – Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

On Wednesday, NASA legislators began signing affidavits supporting the swearing-in of Raila Odinga as the “People’s President” in an event scheduled for January 30, 2018 in Nairobi.

In a communication to media houses, ODM Communications Director Philip Etale said the process is aimed at binding the legislators to the resolution recognising Raila and Kalonzo as president and deputy president of the People’s Assembly respectively.

“Ask your elected leader whether they have signed this instrument and if they have not, we leave it to the wisdom of wananchi to deal with them politically,” Etale urged NASA supporters.

So far over 50 MPs are reported to have signed the affidavit among them Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi and Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga.

A section of NASA MPs, among them Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka have however expressed discomfort with Raila’s oath plan saying they only recognise Uhuru Kenyatta as president.

United States is among the foreign countries that have expressed their strong opposition to the swearing-in plan instead urging Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta to resolve their differences through dialogue.

Speaking in Machakos on Friday, however, Raila and Kalonzo insisted that the swearing-in will take place, urging residents of Machakos to make travel plans to attend the event in Nairobi.

Raila said they will be sworn in on the basis of August 8 presidential election results which he claims saw him beat President Uhuru Kenyatta.

This basis has been contested by Jubilee legislators who say Supreme Court ruling annulling President Uhuru Kenyatta’s August 8 win only focused on the process and not the results.

For this reason, Jubilee says, both the results of August 8 and October 26 indicate President Uhuru Kenyatta defeated Raila Odinga.

Raila’s reiteration came at the backdrop of warnings by the Attorney General Githu Muigai and Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe that the swearing-in will be an act of treason which is punishable by death.
