KANU lowers nomination fees for women contestants

The independent party, Kenya African National Union (KANU), has promised to empower its women aspirants in various slots to ensure more women leadership in the country.

Addressing KANU women aspirants’ meeting in Nakuru on Friday, KANU chairman who is also Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, noted that there is still more to be done to ensure that women are equally represented in leadership.

“Kenyan women have played an important role in shaping the nation through development but it is sad that over five decades since independence, and an enabling Constitution,  the country has failed to realize a critical mass of women in leadership,” said Moi.

Mr Moi also called on all KANU members to ensure they support President Uhuru Kenyatta on his second term bid.

He assured women aspirants of their support in their political bid in the August General Election.

“As a commitment to ensure more women leadership, the party has reduced the nomination fee for women and other special interest groups. We also have a women desk in place to listen to women issues within the party,” he said.

KANU Secretary General, Nick Salat, in his address said he is confident that the independent party is the party to watch come August 8.

He slammed Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Aden Duale, for trying to interfere with matters of KANU and its’ support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term.

“I want to assure you that KANU will never be same again come August 8. To my friend Duale, let him know that KANU is here to stay and will support the President in his re-election bid,” he said.

On his part nominated Senator, Paul Njoroge, who ditched Jubilee for KANU, also reiterated his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term.
