KANU officials accuse govt of plan to bankrupt party

Nakuru County Branch KANU officials have accused some individuals in government of crippling the independence of the party.

The party chairman, John Ngunjiri, stated that the recent High Court ruling, ordering Kenya Power to attach KANU’s Nakuru building to recover Ksh212 million electricity bill was malicious.

He pointed out that the bill, which amounts to over Ksh500 million, cannot be recovered by the sale of Nakuru offices which are worth Ksh100 million.

“The move to attach Nakuru KANU building is sinister because it is only worth Ksh100 million. This is a plan to see all KANU properties auctioned to make it unstable hence force them into a coalition,” he said.

He appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene and save the party from becoming bankrupt.

The officials also pointed out that they are ready to surrender KICC title deed, which is in their custody, to Kenya Power in its quest to recover the electricity debt.

The move comes few weeks after a Nairobi High Court issued an order to Kenya Power to attach Nakuru KANU branch building to recover power bills accrued for over 8 years.
