Kaparo condemns Bungoma MCA attack on Kamusinga principal

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chair Francis Ole Kaparo on Thursday condemned the attack on a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga in the new transfer row that has sparked mixed reactions countrywide.

Kaparo urged the relevant security agencies to take action on the attackers adding that the commission will give a comprehensive report on the action it will take on Monday.

Kaparo emphasised that teachers, like any other civil servant have a right to work in any part of the country.

This comes a day after members of the Bungoma County Assembly stormed the institution and ejected the new school principal, Alex Maina.

Alex Maina, the former principal of Ololaiser Boys High School in Narok County and the new head teacher was quickly sent on his way and the door to his office locked to prevent his return.

The leaders had made their objections known when acting Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced the transfer of more than 500 headteachers countrywide.

The leaders argued the new principal of Friends School Kamusinga was not equipped for the position.

The former principal of the school, Edwin Namachanja was transferred to Maranda High School in Siaya County while the former Lugulu Girls Principal, Margaret Mechumo moved to Kisumu Girls Secondary and was replaced by Dinah Chebii from Moi Girls Kapsowar.

The leaders also objected to the decision to transfer the principal of Lugulu Girls’ High School.

Their attempts to throw out the new principal of Lugulu Girls, who was transferred alongside more than 500 other headteachers were however thwarted by police.

The situation at the school which was admitting Form One students also left new parents questioning their choice of schools.
