Kaparo faults KDF operations in Laikipia

Following the killing of a pupil and the injuring of another by a KDF officer in Laikipia, the National Cohesion boss has faulted the military operation to flush out bandits.

On Monday, August 29, it is alleged that two KDF officers accosted two youths in Rumuruti trading center, shooting dead one and severely injuring another, an act that sparked protests among residents who demanded an explanation to the incidence further raising tensions in an already volatile region that has been marred by massive banditry attacks.

Through a statement to the media, NCIC now says that “whereas the commission welcomes the ongoing operations in the county to tame and flush out criminals who are causing instability among communities residing in this region, NCIC condemns use of excess force that may result in destruction of property including burning of houses and killing of livestock.”

NCIC insists that incidences like this will increase tension among the communities, calling for a speedy investigation into the matter.

Further, the commission has revealed that it will be engaging the Ministry of Defense to craft a way forward on the manner in which the military operations will be undertaken without interfering with innocent civilians.

“Kenyans should be able to live in a safe and peaceful environment. To the people of Liakipia we urge you to exercise tolerance while desisting from taking the law into your own hands, as we work towards agreeable approach in the ongoing operations,” read the letter.
