Kapsoya murder case delayed to allow for investigations

The prosecutor handling the Kapsoya children killings has requested for more time to conduct investigations into the tragic case, forcing the family of aspiring Kapsoya MCA James Ratemo to wait longer for justice to be served.

Citing new developments in the case, Deputy Director of Prosecutions in charge of the North Rift region Zachary Omwenga told an Eldoret court to give his office more time to amend the charges.

The bodies of Ratemo’s three children – who had gone missing Saturday, May 13 after they left home to attend church – were found in River Nzoia late last week.

According to the police, the bodies of the three children were mutilated before being dumped in River Nzoia.

Ratemo’s brother, Enoch Onsase, who had earlier been identified as the abductor, is set to appear in court on June 6 as the key suspect.

The Ratemo family lawyer, Charles Nyamweya, urged the public to be patient because this is a high profile case that requires the meticulous prosecution.

He welcomed the inclusion other agencies in the probe, saying enlisting different professionals in the investigation was a move in the right direction.

“The matter has been mentioned this morning and the prosecution has been given ten more days to continue with their investigations, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions had asked the court to allow the police to hold the suspect at Central Police Station Eldoret while they conclude investigations,” Nyamweya said.

He added that the inclusion of forensic and homicide experts from the CID will go a long way in helping the prosecution fast track the conclusion of the case.
