Karua warns private developers against grabbing school lands
Narc-K chairperson and Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant, Martha Karua, has warned private developers against encroaching on school lands in the county.
Speaking on Friday, March 31, after visiting St Marys Mwea Girls, formerly Mutithi Girls Secondary School, at Kandongu in Mwea West, Ms Karua was informed by the school management that the girls’ school playing ground had been grabbed by private developers who wanted to convert it to a community stadium.
Karua said this cannot be allowed to happen since it will leave the school without a playground and promised to take action against those alleged to have grabbed the land.
Karua said the school was built in the colonial era but the title deed had been issued to private persons through the back door.
Karua said the community, through the defunct County Council of Kirinyaga, sold the playing ground to private developers.
She urged local leaders to help resolve the land issues in the county.
