Katwa denies facilitating money exchange between Kidero and Tunoi

Lawyer Katwa Kigen has denied facilitating the alleged exchange of a 200 million shilling bribe between Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero and suspended Supreme Court Judge Philip Tunoi.

Kigen has denied the claims by Tunoi’s accuser Geoffrey Kiplagat when he appeared before the Sharad Rao-led tribunal investigating the bribery allegations Wednesday afternoon.

The lawyer, however, admitted meeting Kiplagat on several occasions including at Kass FM, when he represented former journalist Joshua Sang in his case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kigen also refuted claims in the affidavit that he picked Kiplagat in his car, with Tunoi at the back of the seat, before proceeding to a petrol station in Westlands, Nairobi where the exchange of the money allegedly took place.

Kigen further said he only knows Kidero as a public figure, but denies discussing Justice Tunoi with Kiplagat or even meeting him at Lonrho House in August 2014 as alleged in the affidavit.

The tribunal has adjourned its sittings until Tuesday next week.
