Kaya Elders Hold Peace Walk In The Region

“We are out to preach peace and urge the government to contain cases of insecurity that have been on the rise in the region.” the elders said

Joseph Mwarandu, the Secretary General of the Malindi District Cultural association (MADCA) said this while addressing the public at the governor’s office in Kilifi town.

Mwarandu added that the recent killings in the region were getting out of hand and that as Kaya elders, they were not going to sit and watch that happen.

Kennedy Kamto, the Kilifi County Deputy Governor also appealed to the residents to uphold peace.

Kilifi Member of County Assembly Kingi Ngombo however faulted security chiefs in the country for failing to contain the attacks yet they were well equipped.

He wondered why fifteen thousand police officers were deployed to guard Saba Saba rally in Nairobi rather than sending them to Lamu, an area that is prone to attacks.

Ngombo further urged the government to beef up security in the entire region.

The peace program is sponsored by the Kilifi County government.

The program will see Kaya elders travel to South Coast to meet their counter parts from Kwale and Mombasa counties before starting the walk that will end in the Town of Malindi.

Over 90 people have been killed in the skirmishes that have rocked Lamu County.
