KCPE exam results to be released today

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is set to release the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results today.

The results will be released by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr Fred Matiang’i, and the KNEC Chief Executive Officer, Prof George Magoha.

Over 950,000 pupils sat for the exam in over 10,000 primary schools across the country early November.

The release of the exams breaks the tradition where candidates know their results late December.

During a visit of Kwale early November, Matiang’i, gave the examinations a clean bill of health saying that there was no cases of leakages experienced compared to previous years.

The CS attributed the success of mitigating cheating and leakages to the coordination between his office, the Ministry of Interior and head teachers.

For the first time, exam materials were stored in metallic containers and not in armories in police stations as was the case before.

The 346 containers were distributed across the country and were guarded by police officers around the clock, and only sub-county commissioners and county directors of education had the keys.

Early every morning, head teachers of all schools collected the examination materials from the containers in their sub-counties and return the scripts to the containers at the end of the day.

These measures were implemented after the results of over 7,000 primary school candidates were cancelled over irregularities last year.
