KCPE exams credible, Matiangi says

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has given the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations a clean bill of health.

Speaking during a tour at the Jomo Kenyatta Primary School in Msambweni, Kwale County as the candidates sat their final paper, Social Studies, the CS said the interventions that were put in place to curb cheating across the county have succeeded.

“Apart from the isolated case in Kisauni which I term it as irresponsibility on the part of the supervisor, we have had no other challenge so far,” he said.

Dr Matiang’i attributed the success to the coordination between his office, the Ministry of Interior and head teachers, saying similar methods of administering and managing the examination will be applied for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

“I am now in receiving feedback from all school heads and I can tell you they are also happy,” he said.

He supported the decision by Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa to ban the supply of food in schools saying his ministry would not entertain such acts and those who are willing to support the students should instead go through the sub-county directors of education and sub-county commissioners.

“Mr Marwa was right and we are not going to allow this as a ministry. I can tell you and this is for sure those who are pretending to take food to schools do not have the interest of students at heart, they only want to achieve political ends,” he said.

The CS was accompanied by Kwale County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka and County Director of Education Paschal Makite among others.
