The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results for 2016 were released Thursday at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum and Development (KICD) in Nairobi.

Speaking during the release of the results, the Teachers Service Commission CEO, Nancy Macharia, said that this year’s exams were credible beyond reproach.

She said that the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders laid down new examination rules and that they have no relation to the current performance of the students.

The general performance of the candidates dipped compared to last year with the top candidate scoring 434 out of 500 marks compared to last year’s candidate who scored 449 marks.

Ms Macharia, however, said that whichever the path, the results will be used as variables to evaluate primary school teachers’ performances.

“We would want to know where the teachers were in schools that have performed dismally,” she noted.

She congratulated the education stakeholders for their collaboration with the Kenya National Examination Council  (KNEC) during the examination period.
