KCSE 2018: Results for 100 students cancelled

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Friday stated that results for 100 students who sat the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination were cancelled over irregularities.

The CS further stated that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is also withholding the results “of some centres” which will be notified when the results are released.

“In the meantime, KNEC will finalise investigations into suspected malpractices and will release a report on the same on or before January 31, 2019,” said CS Amina.

“I wish to assure the nation, affected candidates and parents that due diligence will be undertaken to ensure that no candidate is unfairly penalised.”

She also said 119 people, including candidates, were arrested during the examination period and arraigned in court for various offences, adding that 56 of those cases are still pending in court.

CS Amina further reiterated that, as a result of the combined effort of the multi-agency team, there was no leakage during the 2018 KCSE.

She, however, added that cases of early exposure, impersonation, possession of unauthorised and illegal material as well as collusion were reported in some examination centres.

“Most of these cases were detected and dealt with on the spot, thereby preserving the integrity of the examination,” said Amina.

The CS stated that the results will be collected from the sub-county Director of Education offices by the respective schools after which the candidates will pick them up from their various examination centres.

Individual candidate results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number to Short Message Service (SMS) line 20076.
