KCSE 2019: Dozens of candidates give birth during exams

Dozens of KCSE 2019 candidates have given birth during the exam that started on Monday.

In Bomet County, one candidate was rushed to Longisa County Referral hospital after developing labour pains while sitting for her morning paper.

The student from Kerundut Secondary School in Chepalungu Sub-County delivered the baby and then continued with the afternoon papers from her hospital bed.

According to Chepalungu Sub-County Police boss Nelson Masai, the candidate will sit for the rest of her exams at the health facility.

12 other pregnant students, five from Mulot Secondary in Bomet East and 7 from Kiplogyi Girls in Bomet Central reportedly began their exams but without any signs of  labor pain.

Bomet County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding affirmed that there are contingency measures at the Longisa County Referral hospital incase they go into labour.

In Baringo, a candidate from St Mary’s Tenges within Baringo Central gave birth hours to the start of the KCSE exam.

She started her English paper at the Baringo County Referral Hospital.

The 18-year-old gave to birth to a baby girl then sat in a special room reserved for her as a relative stayed with the baby.

Baringo Central Deputy County Commissioner Reuben Ratemo said that the candidate will sit for the exams in the hospital until she is discharged.

Another candidate from St. Robert Secondary School Arwos in Emgwen was admitted to the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital when she developed labour pains.

She was rushed to the hospital where she delivered the baby.

In Igembe, one student will be siting for her exams at Nyambene Health Centre where she is expecting to have a baby at the facility.

According to the sub county director of education Mr Charles Njeru Muchiri, she will sit for the KCSE 2019 examinations just as any other student but in a private room.
