KCSE candidate collapses, dies after exam

A candidate who was sitting this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam collapsed and died on Tuesday in Homa Bay County.

Toddy Otieno Ouma was writing his exams at Atemo Mixed Secondary School in Rachuonyo East Sub-county.

Homa Bay County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said the student collapsed while playing football alongside other candidates in the school compound after completing the day’s exams.

He was rushed to Atemo Mission Hospital for first aid but was later transferred to Matata Hospital in Oyugis Town where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The cause of the student’s death remains unclear as he is reported to have been in good health since the beginning of the national exams.

His body was moved to Matata Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Meanwhile, a candidate at Got Bura Secondary School in Suba-South constituency lost her newborn baby who died shortly after delivery on Wednesday morning.

The student is sitting her exams at St. Camilus Hospital.
