KCSE exams kick off amid tight security

Over 600,000 candidates on Monday began writing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam countrywide, amid tight security to ensure the integrity of the test is not compromised.

The 664,585 candidates will begin with Mathematics paper 1 in the morning and later sit Chemistry paper I in the afternoon, with the examination set to continue until November 28.

Top officials led by Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed will be moving around the country to various examination centres to monitor the examination process.

CS Amina kicked off the day at the Coast region where she opened the exam container at Mvita area in Mombasa at 6am before visiting selected centres. The CS is also scheduled to conduct impromptu school visits.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang is in Kisii County while Teachers Service Commission (TSC) boss Nancy Macharia is in Nyeri town where she is set to conduct random checks at various exam centres.

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chairman George Magoha opened the exam container in Busia twon.

In a move that is also set to raise public debate, State officers outside the Education docket are also involved in the exam supervision exercise.

National Treasury CS Henry Rotich was on Monday in Eldoret town where he opened the exam container at Kapsoya before visiting selected exam centres
