This year’s KCSE examination results will be released at 2:30 pm today, Education CS Fred Matiang’i is expected to announce the results at the Shimo la Tewa High School in Mombasa County.

The 2016 exam was administered under strict rules and regulations by the Education Ministry to ensure cases of cheating were minimized.

A total of 577, 079 candidates sat for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam, as compared to 522,870 who sat last year’s examinations.

Of these, 274,423 were female candidates and 302,830 were male compared to 243,581 female and 279,289 male who sat the exam in 2015.

The exam that was carried out in 9,158 centres across the country was administered from November 7th to 30th this year.

Last year, 165, 766 candidates attained the minimum university entry qualification of C plus and above, 2636 candidates attained mean grade A in 2015 a decrease from 3073 candidates in 2014, 1976 male candidates in 2015 scored A, with only 660 female candidates scoring the same.

In 2015, 5,101 candidates had their results canceled after they were found to have been involved in various examination malpractices while all counties with the exception of Isiolo had candidates involved in exam malpractice.

Makueni, Nairobi, and Meru counties recorded the highest number of examination centres involved in malpractices and this prompted tough guidelines to be introduced by the government to curb cheating.

According to the exam guidelines implemented by the Education ministry, candidates were only allowed to use mathematical tables approved by KNEC while exam papers were stored in tamper proof containers.

A total of 346 containers were set up in sub-counties for the storage of examination materials. The containers were then opened in the presence of sub-county exam officials, an examination officer and a police officer and Head teachers picked the papers, which were stored at the sub-county offices, at 5am every day.

The head teachers then signed a document confirming the container and papers were not tampered with.
