KCSE students writing exams in police cells for alleged robbery with violence

Two Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) candidates from Soweto Baptist Secondary School in Kibera, Nairobi are writing their papers, which started on Monday, November 7, at the Kilimani Police Station over alleged robbery with violence.

According to Nairobi County Police Commander, Japheth Koome, the two students were found with a homemade gun and two bullets after they robbed a man of a laptop valued at Ksh 250,000, a mobile phone valued at Ksh 53,000, an external hard drive of street value Ksh 15,000 and black rubber shoes among other items.

One of the suspects, identified as Alibi ‘Garang’ was arrested a few days later wearing the black rubber shoes stolen from their victim.

Garang turned on his accomplices and after interrogation he led the police to arrest the other two suspects – one of them identified as Kevin Mwangi, aged 26. The two had taken the stolen items (laptop and phone) for formatting to clear any information from the previous owner.

After ransacking their house, police found two homemade guns with two bullets, a stolen phone, and a perfume allegedly belonging to their victim and four rolls of bhang.

Police are currently pursuing another student from Kangemi High School who is alleged to be part of the gang that has been terrorising the Kibera residents.
