KDF canteen burnt down in Nairobi
A military canteen was on Sunday, December 17, razed to ground in a second fire incident at a Defence department facility in less than a month.
No injuries were reported from the 4pm fire incident at the Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi.
Confirming the incident, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) spokesperson Col. David Obonyo said the cause of the fire could not be immediately established.
The KDF spokesman added that the gate personnel at the facility were the first to notice the fire before informing firefighters of the incident.
Military police and the fire department are investigating the cause of the fire, with reports indicating that the canteen is usually closed on Sundays.
On December 4, a military store at the Department of Defence (DoD) headquarters in Nairobi was also gutted down by a fire suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.
