KDF officer, 4 others arraigned over possession of explosives

Five people who were arrested with explosives, including a serving KDF officer attached to the Kabete Barracks, were today (Monday) arraigned in a Nairobi court.

Francis Otieno Oluoch, the officer, Simon Muturi Gichuki, Nathaniel Kiprono Tarus, Johnson Nyarangi Omaiyo and Robert Makini Osano were arrested by Anti Terror Police officers in a house in Lang’ata on Saturday August, 2016.

It is alleged that the five were found in a house belonging to one of them while in the process of negotiating to sell devices suspected to be improvised explosives.

The officers said that the device was forwarded to the bomb disposal unit for analysis and found to be containing cesium material element that produces radiation that can be used to make a dirty bomb.

The five were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts before resident magistrate Elector Riani Chambers. The magistrate ordered that four out of the five be remanded for five days pending completion of investigations, while the fifth respondent has been released on a Ksh.50,000 cash bail on condition that he be reporting at the police station every day until investigations are done.

While releasing him, the magistrate considered the fact that he is of bad health and the that the investigators did not object to his release. The matter will be mentioned on August 29, 2016.
